Officers reported they were notified by a resident who discovered a automobile in Hanau marked with red-colored substance

Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.

Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Officers report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.

The liquid had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they added.

Officers then discovered many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Police state preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely human blood.

"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; officials are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the occurrence," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.

A high-ranking official stated the vandalism left him without words and needed to be solved quickly.

"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack in 2020," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at people of migrant background in February 2020.
