Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under house arrest.

The ex-president was found guilty of plotting a armed takeover in the ninth month and given more than a 27-year term in jail, but he remained under home detention pending appeals.

Top Judicial Official the presiding justice said the decision to arrest the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after fresh information came to light.

This encompassed trying to remove his electronic bracelet and a summons to a demonstration that could enable a possible escape.

Judicial Records Show Escape Risks

In a document approving the detention, Justice Moraes said information from the centre monitoring Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the one-time head of state's aim to disable the electronic ankle bracelet to ensure success in his escape.

This, it said, would be "facilitated by the disorder caused by the protest called by his son.

His child, Flávio, who works as a legislator, called for a meeting of his followers near his father's house to take place on Saturday evening.

Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on social media on Friday: Will you battle for your nation, or observe everything from your mobile device there on your settee? I invite you to struggle with us."

He said the vigil would be so backers could seek divine intervention for his physical condition and for the restoration of democratic rule in our nation."

Diplomatic Refuge Fears

Part of the magistrate's decision was the chance of the former president's "relocation to foreign missions near the residence, considering that the inquiries revealed a history of organizing to ask for protection through a embassy office", a statement said.

The judicial paperwork underscores that the United States embassy in the capital, the capital city, is located around 8 miles from the former president's residence.

Worldwide Consequences

Bolsonaro's legal woes have provoked anger from fellow right-wing populist United States President Donald Trump, causing him to impose a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.

He is being detained in a Federal Police station in Brazil's capital city and will undergo a custody hearing on the next day.

Recent Legal Requests

It was only on the previous day that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Supreme Court to permit him to fulfill his full incarceration period under house arrest, with electronic monitoring.

They also petitioned that Bolsonaro be permitted to leave his home for medical treatment, saying he demanded ongoing care for pulmonary infections and other health problems.

Context of Sentencing

The former president was found guilty of heading a conspiracy aimed at maintaining his control after he was defeated in the presidential race to his left-wing rival, President Lula.

High Court judges said that he had knowledge of a scheme which encompassed plans to murder his opponent and his VP candidate, Geraldo Alckmin, and to detain and kill the presiding judge - the High Court judge who has been presiding over the former president's case.

The scheme was prevented because it failed to get the backing of the army and air force commanders. His successor was took office without issue on the first day of 2023.

But a seven days after, on 8 January, thousands of his backers attacked and damaged government buildings in the capital, the capital city.

The security forces intervened and around 1,500 people were taken into custody.

The justices found that the rioters had been encouraged by the former president whose plan, they said, was for the national armed forces to step in, bring back stability and return him to office.

At the period, Bolsonaro's lawyers called the decades-long sentence "absurdly excessive.

He was also banned from seeking elected position until 2060 - a decade minus two years after the end of his sentence.

The ex-leader called the court case a targeted investigation" and said it was intended to stop him competing in the next presidential race.
